This analysis showed that Action was the highest-selling video game genre, Nintendo was the highest-selling publisher, and the Nintendo DS had the largest game library. Sales increased steadily from the 1980s and reached their highest point in 2008, demonstrating the industry’s rapid growth during that period. The analysis also found a very strong positive relationship between North American sales and worldwide sales, indicating that games successful in North America were generally successful worldwide. In addition, the ANOVA test showed that average sales differed significantly across genres, with Platform and Shooter games averaging higher sales than genres such as Adventure and Strategy. Finally, Wii Sports was identified as the best-selling game in the dataset, and Nintendo published four of the top five best-selling games. Overall, the project demonstrates how sales data can be used to identify market leaders, compare performance across genres and platforms, analyze industry trends over time, and support business decisions in the video game industry. Future analyses could be improved by including digital sales, review scores, marketing budgets, development costs, and newer game releases. Additionally, the impact of emerging technologies, such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), is becoming increasingly significant in shaping consumer preferences and gaming experiences. As these technologies continue to evolve, they are expected to create new genres and redefine existing ones, potentially leading to shifts in sales patterns and market dynamics.
